I wish to explore the long, rich history of my family from Mexico and their experiences in the borderland. My great-grandfathers Rafael and José Calderón, partners in the International Amusement Company, and my grandfather owned multiple theaters in El Paso and Cd. Juarez, including the Colón and Alcazar theaters in downtown El Paso, the Cactus Drive-In Theater in northeast El Paso, and the Cine Plaza in Cd. Juarez. I plan on examining their letters and documents and determining how their movies and theaters helped shape El Paso’s collective history.
